Banana smoothies are delicious, naturally thick and have a milkshake like consistency. Yummy! This doesn't mean they are not healthy. If you prefer you can substitute soy or almond milk for the dairy milk. It is also best to use ripe bananas, so if your bananas are becoming over-ripe just toss them in the blender for a healthy smoothie. These smoothies are super easy to make. Enjoy!

One Banana Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 c. milk
1 banana, cut up
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 ice cubes

Directions:

Add the milk, banana, vanilla extract and the ice cubes together in the blender. Cover and blend until smooth about 30 seconds. If your blender doesn't crush ice you can crush it up yourself by putting it in a freezer bag and hitting it with a mallet. Best to do this on a cutting board and not on your countertop! Add the crushed ice and blend. This recipe makes one serving.

Two Banana Smoothie

Ingredients:

2 bananas, cut up
1 c. plain yogurt
1 c. orange juice
4 tsp. honey

Directions:

Place all ingredients in the blender (you can also use a food processor). Blend until smooth. Since you have not added ice to this smoothie, add a couple of ice cubes to your glass or put your smoothie into the refrigerator to chill. This recipe makes 2 servings.

Smoothies are a tasty way to eat healthy and keep your weight stable. You can even disguise greens like spinach or kale in a smoothie - perfect for the kids. Drink your way to health with smoothies!
